CNA’s have a bunch of different duties and responsibilities. In this article the duties and responsibilities of certified nursing assistants will be covered. However, it should be known that not all certified nursing assistants have the same duties and responsibilities it just depends on where they work. CNA’s who work in a patient’s home would not have the same duties and responsibilities as the ones who work in the hospital and the nursing homes. Also, another thing that plays a part in the duties and responsibilities of certified nursing assistants depends on which state they work in because each state has different standards that they expect their certified nursing assistants to meet. So, the list that has been compiled below is just a general list it can vary based on the two things that were listed above.
- If a CNA works in someone’s home then they will be responsible for helping the a variety of different everyday task that include, but are not limited to, bathing, eating, grooming and exercising.
- All CNA’s must be familiar with medical terminology and how to give CPR.
- All CNA’s must be familiar with infection control
- All CNA’s must be familiar with recording vital signs including, but not limited to, blood pressure and temperatures
- All CNA’s must be familiar with how to keep a clean environment for patients as well as how to help them maintain proper hygiene
- All CNA’s should be able to follow directions that have been given by nurses or doctors
- Certain CNA’s will have a weight requirement that they will need meet in order to be able to fulfill their job duties successfully
- All CNA’s are also required to be able to know how to rate a patients level or pain as well as take their weight
- All CNA’s are also required to know how to clean and sterilize equipment
The things that are listed above are the things that are most common for certified nursing assistants to know. Some states may not require all of the things listed above and other states may require for certified nursing assistants to know more things that were not listed above. However, the things that are on this list are the basic things that need to be known.
If one knows the things that are listed above then they should have no problem fulfilling all of their duties and responsibilities that will be required for them to complete their jobs successfully. However, even if you do not use all the things that you have learned in school when you first start out as time goes on and you progress in your career field you will find that more duties and responsibilities will come about so you will be using them at some point in your career. This is why everything that you learned while in school was learned so you could be prepared for any and all job duties and responsibilities that came your way.
