Training to become a CNA is perhaps one of the fastest ways to gain entry into the medical industry. Many nurse aides use the training as a stepping stone to a career in nursing. The Arkansas’ Department of Health and Human Services requires nurse aides to complete at least 90 hours of state-accredited training and take the state certification exam before taking up employment as Certified Nurse Assistants. In Jonesboro, nurse aide training is available for high school students at various Career and Technical Centers. Adults can train at local medical centers and hospitals. While training, you can obtain valuable on-the-job experience working at long term care facilities. Before you apply for employment, you should apply for the 4-month permit to work. The one-time permit is available to nurse aide students to work while training or awaiting results of the state exam. If you fail one or both components of the state certification exam, the DHHS will revoke your temporary permit.
