Female nurse working her job in a hospital

North Carolina nurse aides fall into one of two categories: a level one CNA or a level two CNA. The Department of Health and Human Services oversees the nurse aide registry for level one CNAs, and the North Carolina Board of Nursing manages the registry for level two CNAs. Federal and state guidelines require all nursing home employees to obtain listing on the Nurse Aide I Registry – this guideline encompasses all workers including RNs, LPNs and Level II CNAs.

CNA I candidates must complete a state-approved program of 75 hours or more and pass the Pearson VUE administered Nurse Aide I competency evaluation. Any CNA listed on the Nurse Aide I Registry can advance to the Level II after completing a board-approved nurse aide II training program and competency evaluation. Level two nurse aides earn more since they perform more complex tasks than a nurse aide I. See below for a list of state-approved CNA training programs in Greensboro NC.
